The detailed design of reinforced concrete columns and foundations for a single-storey industrial building is provided in an educational book. The main calculus and design procedures have been developed in accordance with European Standards (Eurocodes). The presentation starts from the composition of the main structural elements of the building and the calculation of loadings on the structures covered by Eurocode 1 (Actions). Whereupon, the typical hand calculations are adopted to determine the internal design forces and moments generated from the load arrangements. The combinations of the internal forces and moments relevant to design situations at ultimate limit states (ULS) with geotechnical actions (GEO) are later demonstrated explicitly. Finally, the latest sections are intended to show a hand calculation for the non-slender concrete columns and shallow foundations design determining the reinforcement required. The theoretical stress-strain analysis at the ultimate limit state of the columns is given in the appendixes of a book. Here, the derived equations according to Euromode 2 rules are devoted to an analytical prediction of the required reinforcement for the eccentrically loaded columns.
The specific or complex questions, in many cases, are highlighted by the additional theoretical explanations to help the students better understand the theory taught in the course material and its direct application in the design. Also, the presented material is abundantly illustrated by design schemes, diagrams, tables, etc.
The educational book is mainly intended for the students of civil engineering.
