Description

The collection of articles comprises four chapters: I. Standardization and use of terms. II. Formation and translation of terms. III. Terminographic remarks. IV. Terminological trivia.

The first chapters consider some terminological issues: linguistic and extralinguistic aspects of standardization and use of terms; term formation and translation subjects influenced, in one way or another, by modern technologies that stimulated and sometimes even altered some characteristics of scientific language. Therefore, the first chapter also contains some articles on the analysis of scientific language.

The third chapter begins with ideas shared by professors A. Puodžiukynas, P. Brazdžiūnas and A. Žvironas on what should glossaries look like. Thereafter, Contemporary glossaries are introduced, reviews of various glossaries and manuals are presented.

The fourth chapter – Terminological Trivia – contains small articles from periodicals and newspapers on the use of specific terms. It is expected that readers, terminologists, linguists will find small- and large-scale articles published several years or decades ago useful, as they highlight the aspects of some terms and development of scientific language.

To make it easier for the readers to find a term (regular or corrected) mentioned in the text, an index is given at the end of the book.
