The study book presents the material on railway transport and special attention is given to Lithuanian railways network and its management. The book consists of introduction, five chapters and two annexes. The largest part of book deals with the principles of the railway traffic management and operation, particular stress is made on the railway stations. The study book contains the classification of the stations as well as the analysis of their functions and principles of the railway traffic management and operation in the stations. Plans of various stations are also included together with the analysis of particular elements of the stations, their functions and interconnections. Principles of safe railway traffic in the stations and the side tracks are provided in the chapters dealing with the signalling, interlocking, block system and railway traffic. Terms and definitions are provided separately.
