Description

This educational book provides an overview of diode’s development from crystal detector to modern Schottky contact and pn junction. Semiconductor diode physics is described in order to help students to understand physical processes in real Schottky diodes, pn junctions and pin junctions, and the relation between diode physics and diode properties. The key equations for diode current-voltage characteristic, junction capacitance, diffusion capacitance are provided. Also, the technology of modern semiconductor diodes manufactured in series is presented. The examples of the widest application of modern diodes in electronic circuits are described by grouping them according to the parameters and operating principles: general purpose (standard) diodes, power diodes, RF (high frequency) diodes, varactor diodes, Zener diodes (photodiodes, light emitting diodes and laser diodes are not included). A chapter is devoted to negative differential resistance diodes applied in signal generators and amplifiers. Sophisticated diode structures and modern diode technologies are presented in the last chapter

The educational book is useful for electronics engineers, electronic devices and circuit designers.
