Course Financial Systems (VVFRM17103) annotation

The course Financial Systems introduces students to the role and functioning of financial systems in the economy. It covers financial markets, financial institutions, financial instruments, money and capital markets, repo markets, eurodollars, foreign exchange rates, liquidity, banks, dealers, and the lender of last resort.

Students learn to understand the structure of the financial system, analyse the role of its main participants, evaluate financial instruments, and explain the links between different financial markets. The course develops analytical and practical skills through lectures, practical tasks, case studies, discussions, and individual work.

The final assessment consists of an exam and, for full-time students, homework assignments.

Aim of course

To prepare specialists capable of understanding of financial system role in the economy, to provide knowledge of financial system's functions, financial instruments and derivative financial instruments. To coprehend classification of financial institutions and their role in the financial system. To provide the ability to analyse the factors linking all the financial markets, identify and evaluate the supply and demand of financial instruments.

Learning outcomes: The knowledge of financial system influence to business development and their role in the economy, financial instruments and derivative financial instruments peculiarity and management methods. Will be able to know the environmental factors of financial markets and financial institutions, the principles and evaluation of financial instruments' supply and demand. Will be able to identify changes of the financial system's components, observe and assess their influence on business environment. Will be able at any stage of decision making to evaluate structurally, analyse and use the principles of design thinking. Will be able to independently develop and apply the knowledge by analysing financial system's changes and evaluate the aspects of innovation, on the basis of accomplished applied research. Will know the structure of finance system, its main players, their impact, principles of functioning and management of the sysem.

Upon completion of the course with a positive assessment, a Certificate of Completion will be issued, which is transferable to any higher education institution. Upon completion of the course module without a final assessment, a certificate of completion of the course is issued.
