Course Human Resource Management (VVVKM21201) annotation

The main of concepts of human resources management, the significance of the strategic human resource management in the context of the organization, the main preconditions of human resources management system organization and management are presented in the course of human resources management.

Aim of course

To form theoretical understanding of human resources management and to train to practically apply these skills.

Learning outcomes: Will be able to collect, analyse, systematize and evaluate information related to human resources. Will be able to choose criterions of critical evaluation and reasonable choose the idea for development of human resource management. Will be able to formulate arguments and assumptions of alternatives for human resource management decisions applying quantitative and qualitative, technology-based methods. Will be able to conduct analysis of problems and interpret the results from an interdisciplinary perspective. Will be able to develop and implement the strategies of human resources and human capital, taking into account the conditions of environmental uncertainty. Will be able to interrelate training and development and compensation management strategies of human resources with the application of digital technologies. Will be able to develop and interrelate the strategies for social responsibility, employee relations and engagement in responding to the need for effective management solutions and take into account the latest research trends. Will be able to forecast and plan human resources strategically and foresee the need for their development in the organization both individually and in communication with the team and external partners. Will be able to organize personnel attraction, selection and adaptation by focusing on human resource strategic plans. Will be able to develop the social responsibility of employees both individually and in consulting with the team, to organize their training and to assess the benefits of the acquired competencies of the employees for the activities of the organization in line with professional ethics and citizenship. Will be able to make human resource management decisions in the context of uncertain situations, initiate human resource management activities, to manage personnel, to select ways of personal training and development. Will be able to think critically, systematically and logically while making human resource management decisions, understand the moral and social impact of these decisions. Will be able to ensure the confidentiality of information related to human resources.

Basic knowledge and skills required to study this course (if applicable): Management.

Faculty and course volume in credits: A 18-credit course of study for the Master's degree in the Faculty of Business Management.

Interrelationships between the demand for forecasting of human resources, attraction, selection, adaptation and development. Competency-based human resource planning

Training and development strategy. Training and development objectives of personnel, the content of system

The development of qualification and competencies. The methods and approaches of staff training. The application of e-learning

The compensation strategy. Management of compensation system

Interrelationships between performance appraisal and reward management, methods of motivation and engagement

List of the Course exercise topics:

Workshop and discussion. The topic: The approaches to human resource management development and the relationships with the evolution of human resource management models

Practical task No.1. Competency-based human resource planning, attraction and selection. Assessment of jobs and requirements for candidates' competencies. The scenarios of attraction and selection and digitalization techniques. The peculiarities of attraction through social networks. The methods for development of selection interview questions and evaluation criteria for answers 

Practical task No.2. Personnel assessment and performance management. The establishment of criteria and indicators for personnel performance evaluation by applying the objective setting approach. The criteria for assessment and improvement of personnel competencies, content and methods. The organization of the assessment interview procedure. The application of personnel performance evaluation results by determining the structure of compensation system and the need for competence development 

Case study (1). Case study of application how to apply the methods of involvement, engagement and empowerment of employee 

Case study (2). The principles of forming the structure of the compensation system and interrelationships to the performance of employees 

Case study (3). The analysis of digitalization trends of competence development system and training methods

Practical tasks (4). The analysis of the implementation of corporate social responsibility strategy and the application of the principles of sustainable human resource management 

Discussion. Practical application of the Labor Code. Strategic decisions of lay-offs

Upon completion of the course with a positive assessment, a Certificate of Completion will be issued, which is transferable to any higher education institution. Upon completion of the course module without a final assessment, a certificate of completion of the course is issued.
