Course Management of Airports, Airline Companies and Navigation Enterprises (with Course Project) (VVVKM17100) annotation

During the course Management of Airports, Airlines and Air Navigation Service Companies, the management environment is examined by systematizing the characteristics of airports, airlines and air navigation service companies. The essence of modern management is revealed, and relevant management principles as well as other methodological foundations of management are presented. The impact of the external environment on the management of airports, airlines and air navigation service companies is analyzed, with particular attention paid to organizations that establish regulatory frameworks for the sector. The course also examines the content and procedures of the stages of preparation and decision‑making processes that affect the long‑term and short‑term perspectives of airports, airlines and air navigation service companies, as well as the tasks addressed at individual stages of these processes.

During the semester, students must attend more than 50% of lectures and at least 60% of practical classes.

Aim of course

To acquire management principles and develop the ability to effectively address management challenges in airports, airlines and air navigation service companies by purposefully applying a wide range of integrated tools from a broad set of management methods.

Learning outcomes: To develop knowledge of airports, airlines and air navigation service companies as socio economic systems, including their purpose, structure, interrelationships between elements, and the ability to systematize the key characteristics of airports, airlines and air navigation service companies. To develop knowledge of the principles of managing the activities of airports, airlines and air navigation service companies and the ability to apply these principles in practice. To develop knowledge of the operating environment of airports, airlines and air navigation service companies, its structure, and the ability to select and apply appropriate methods for the preparation and adoption of management decisions in order to address the development challenges of airports, airlines and air navigation service companies.

Basic knowledge and skills required to study this course (if applicable): Management.

Faculty and course volume in credits: A 9-credit course of study for the Master's degree in the Faculty of Business Management.

The management environment in the aviation sector, including airports, airlines and air navigation service companies, the concept of modern management and the evolution of managerial thought, environmental factors and their impact on the management of airports, airlines and air navigation service companies as well as the influence of environmental characteristics on the selection of management tools, the composition of management functions in airports, airlines and air navigation service companies, the preparation and adoption of management decisions in airlines, airports and air navigation service companies, decision‑making methods at individual stages of the process, planning functions and methods from the strategic to the operational level, the organization of plan implementation and the updating of organizational structures, employee motivation models in airports, airlines and air navigation service companies, management and leadership in aviation organizations, motivation through economic incentives, activity control and regulatory functions of airports, airlines and air navigation service companies, management of various objects and fields of activity, change management, knowledge management, and decision support systems for managing the activities of airports, airlines and air navigation service companies.
